Affirmative Competencies and Integrating Diversity in Therapy
This workshop series is designed to develop socio-cultural competence & cultivate sensitivity in budding psychologists. Through experiential learning, the aim is to equip participants with practical skills & knowledge to work with a diverse range of clients within the therapy space. Our interactive sessions will provide a comprehensive understanding of bringing an intersectional framework into practice, covering a variety of themes for a holistic learning experience.
Topics Covered:
Multicultural Competence:
This session will take you through the basics of inculcating an inclusive approach when working with cultural diversity in the therapy room. Participants will develop an understanding towards socio-cultural dynamics & norms, biases, language sensitivity & more.
Gender & Sexuality:
Participants can expect to explore nuances of the gender & sexuality spectrum. This session will include discussions around affirmative care, addressing stigma & discrimination, and fostering respect & acceptance.
Psychodrama:
Through immersive discussions and exercises, participants will learn about the principles & techniques utilized to facilitate processing of emotions & conflicts, and insight through action & body movement.
Art & Play Techniques:
This segment will explore art & play mediums, symbolism & metaphors to deepen therapeutic insights. Through hands-on activities using art & props, participants will gain practical skills for integrating the mind-body connection with clients and fostering creative self-expression.
Narrative Therapy:
This approach aims to explore the stories people have and to make sense of them through their experiences & socio-cultural locations. This workshop will help participants develop a respectful, curious & non-blaming approach to psychotherapy with the help of engaging activities.
