The program is structured to help students become competent therapists as the course provides students with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of counselling and the therapeutic process. Each week the course will delve into a different theme and central idea that will give students a platform to equip themselves with core competencies to be effective and ethical practitioners. Case studies, Case discussions, and role plays will be carried out, based on the topic that will be covered during the workshop.

Topics Covered:

Conducting the First Session:

The initial session focuses on establishing a strong therapeutic alliance, conducting an intake assessment, and collaboratively setting goals. These skills aid in structuring and planning sessions effectively. Techniques such as active listening, empathetic communication, and rapport-building are integral in creating a supportive environment.

Affirmative Counselling for Queer Clients:

Provide a space uniquely theirs for queer clients through affirmative counselling approaches that fully embrace diverse identities/expressions and orientations. Our interactive seminar teaches essential knowledge, tools, and mindsets practitioners require along with psychoeducation about gender and sexuality.

Grief and Bereavement:

Addressing grief involves comprehending it as a multifaceted concept, recognizing symptoms, and understanding varied responses. The classes go beyond theoretical understanding to practical application, emphasizing how to work with clients navigating grief, especially in the context of bereavement.

Neurodivergence:

Neurodivergence refers to natural variations in neurological development, encompassing conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and others. It emphasizes the diversity of neurological differences, challenging the notion of a single “normal” or typical brain. Embracing neurodivergence promotes acceptance and understanding of individuals with unique cognitive profiles, fostering a more inclusive and accommodating society.
