Internship & Training in Counselling Psychology (60 Hours)

Workshop Description

This comprehensive training-based internship aims to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills required in the field of Counseling Psychology. The program is meticulously structured to help participants become competent therapists by enhancing their understanding of counselling and the therapeutic process. Each week, the course will delve into a different theme and central idea, providing a platform for students to acquire core competencies necessary to become effective and ethical practitioners. Case studies, discussions, and role-plays are integrated into the curriculum, based on the topics covered during the internship.

 

Topics Covered

  1. Case History Taking and Mental State Examination (MSE): The art of gathering patient information and conducting a comprehensive MSE. Hands-on practice and feedback sessions for attendees.
  2. Understanding Violence & Forms of Abuse:
    Violence can manifest in various ways, including physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological forms. Abuse encompasses a range of behaviors, from overt acts to subtle forms of control and manipulation. This section explores the dynamics of abuse, especially in children and its far-reaching impacts on individuals, families, and communities.
  3. NSSI & Suicide: This segment will provide an understanding of non-suicidal self injury & suicide in clients, along with a focus on risk assessment through case discussions & role-plays to develop essentials skills as a therapist.
  4. Substance Use & Addiction: Addiction is a state of psychological and/or physical dependence on the use of drugs or other substances, such as alcohol, or on activities or behaviors, such as sex, exercise, and gambling. The participants would be introduced to what it would be like to work with a client such as this, the techniques and approaches that can be used, while placing an emphasis on the neurobiology of addiction and dependence.
  5. Anxiety Disorders: Anxiety disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterised by excessive and persistent feelings of worry, fear, or apprehension. Anxiety disorders can interfere with a person’s daily life, making it difficult for them to perform everyday tasks, maintain relationships, or pursue their goals and interests. Major anxiety disorders we will cover are Panic disorder, Agoraphobia, Specific phobia, generalised anxiety disorder, and Mixed anxiety and depressive disorder.
