This comprehensive, training-focused internship is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate pleasure-centered, culturally competent, and affirming approaches into counseling practice. The program delves into critical topics, including the history and evolution of pleasure-centered counseling, the importance of cultural competence, and an introduction to sexuality, consent, and boundaries.By engaging in role plays, case-based learning, and interactive discussions, students will develop the confidence and sensitivity needed to work ethically and effectively with diverse populations. - Kink Affirmative Counselling – The program also covers mental health concerns unique to kink communities, examining the intersection of pleasure, power dynamics, and trauma, while developing counseling strategies that uphold client autonomy and professional boundaries. Participants will explore common misconceptions, stigma reduction, ethical considerations, and consent frameworks to navigate client disclosures sensitively.
- Consent & Boundaries – Participants will learn to navigate complex consent conversations, recognize coercion and power imbalances, and support clients in setting healthy boundaries. The program explores cultural influences, social conditioning, and practical tools for clear communication.
- Family Dynamics Among Families of Trans Folks* – Participants will explore common challenges faced by trans individuals in familial relationships, including misgendering, rejection, and conditional acceptance, while learning strategies to facilitate affirming conversations and conflict resolution.
- Pleasure Positive Interventions – Participants will explore the deconstruction of shame and stigma around pleasure, the impact of cultural and societal narratives, and strategies for integrating pleasure as a healing tool in therapy. The program covers ethical considerations, trauma-informed approaches, and the intersection of pleasure with identity, relationships, and self-worth.
